Our swim starts at Point Vincente beach near the lighthouse and ends on the northern tip of Catalina island.

The water is typically between 62 and 75 degrees F, however in the middle of the channel there is a current that may be 5 degrees colder.

Swim starts are usually scheduled at midnight because there are calmer waters and less shipping traffic.
The first solo swim across the channel was by George Young of Canada in 1927. He completed the course in 15 hours, 44 minutes and 30 seconds.
